Analysing and visualising UK public spending

Where Does My Money Go?

Of Budgets, Deficits and Cuts

Public spending affects all our lives.

The UK has a large budget deficit and almost everyone agrees that significant cuts in spending (or tax increases) are needed. We’re working to make the deficit — and the cuts — comprehensible as well as to document what actually happens.

What we’re doing:

  • Recording the cuts: here you can find a record of the cuts so far as well as help keep track of those cuts by submitting a cut yourself.
  • Closing the deficit gap: want to get an idea of the size of the deficit and how we could deal with it then take a look at our interactive visualization closing the deficit gap.
